The North Georgia Mountains are an excellent place to take your homeschoolers on a field-trip! Your family can hike the Appalachian Trail, check out Amicalola Falls (the tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi), or pan for gold in Dahlonega (which was the site of the country’s first major gold rush). You and your kids can learn more about our Native American History, experience all kinds of fun exotic animals at the North Georgia Wildlife Park in Cleveland, or visit the Swinging Bridge over the Toccoa River. But the month of October is made for trips to a pumpkin patch. Jaemor Farm, our family’s favorite fall destination, is tucked in the foothills of the North Georgia countryside. They are located on 5340 Cornelia Hwy, Alto, Georgia.
Jaemor Farm is owned and operated by the Echols family, who have been growing peaches in this area since 1912. In 1981, with the construction of Interstate 985 and Georgia Highway 365, the Echols family’s dream morphed from a roadside stand to an on-farm shopping experience. They now produce homegrown strawberries, blackberries, muscadines, scuppernongs, Concord grapes, watermelon, squash, tomatoes, zucchini, pumpkins, and more! This farm is a great place to take your kids during the fall family fun season. But it’s worth a visit ANYTIME during the year because your family will benefit from seeing this 500-acre working farm!
fall family fun – Harvest Celebration
Jaemor opened its first corn maze in 2006 and they have expanded their family fun area every year. The newly-named “Harvest Celebration” runs from mid-September through the first weekend in November. The highlight of your visit is sure to be the giant corn maze. They also offer a mini-maze for younger kids and those who would like a quicker route to the finish line.
Other fun on the farm…
- Tractor pulled hayrides through the farmland. This ride gives you and your kids a great view of all the fruit trees and flowers currently being harvested. The hayride is a favorite activity for our 3-year-old, who loves all things TRACTOR!
- Giant farm slides
- A petting zoo featuring goats, pigs, & chickens
- Farm skeeball
- A pumpkin train
- Duck races
- Tricycle races
- Apple Cannon
Pumpkin patch & Flowers
Every year, Jaemor harvests nearly 80 acres of pumpkins in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Jaemor’s pumpkin patch extravaganza is open every October. Your family can come make sweet memories picking out the perfect addition to your fall decor. There is also a cool “wall of pumpkins” that will make a great photo opportunity for your crew.
When in season, Jaemor also offers the opportunity to pick your own sunflowers & wildflowers. For an additional price, you and your kids will be given a souvenir cup that can be filled to the brim with beautiful wildflowers picked by you.
Jaemor Farm Market
More than 1 million people visit the Jaemor Farm Market annually to purchase fresh produce. This includes a variety of peaches, strawberries, apples, green beans, squash, and pumpkins. They also offer jams, jellies, soups, and sauces. But, if we’re being honest, our favorite Jaemor Farm purchases are the cakes, fried pies, pumpkin bread, and apple cider donuts. Haha! We also LOVE their homemade ice cream. You haven’t lived until you’ve tasted the peach soft serve. Yum! Jaemor Farm Market is open year round, Monday-Saturday 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday 1-6 p.m.
I hope I’ve convinced you to add Jaemor Farm to your family’s fall field-trip line-up! As for pricing, you can purchase an “All Access Pass” for $14/person plus tax for ages 3 and up. This includes the corn maze, farm games, hayrides, and access to the pumpkin patch. Adding the u-pick flower experience is an additional $6 per ticket.
